This playset-style set of the McBoodery, a real sandwich shop located in Isleton, CA, gave me the challenge of trying something different - capturing the facade and essence of the building in a smaller footprint. The shop's exterior matches that of the actual location, while rearranging the interior to depict the essence of it in a smaller footprint. The curving counter for taking orders, the cabinet of sauces and merch for sale, the iconic boat filled with bags of chips, and the dessert/cold storage counter next to the kitchen.
With the build being focused on the facade, capturing the corrugated metal via staggered tiles to give some shadow lines was quite important. The same metal tracks down over the awning, and with it all being studs out using this technique, the entire second level was built more in line with that of a mosaic that then attaches over the first floor.
The challenge of capturing all the red detailing and offsets using snot-ted plate assemblies, along with modified offset plates served as an incredibly fun challenge!
Special thanks to Victor at EclipseGrafx for providing the custom-printed and high-quality "McBoodery" windows!
