BUILD LORE

In this Episode of LEGO MASTERS, Michael and I got the opportunity to create a wearable mask, matching our chosen outfit, and then walk down the runway modelling our creation.

"Forlorn Flora" is inspired by the two typical facial expressions seen within theatre; the happy and sad masks. To capture both emotions, we designed eyes that can rotate upwards, as well as a mouth that can rotate 180 degrees to flip the emotion. Rather than just walking down the runway, we wanted to tell a story in dramatic fashion! The Forlorn Flora begins his journey in a sad and lost state, yet as his friend slowly shows him the world beyond, he begins to find some more happiness. Discovering the beauty of a flora, tucked behind his ear, that once sad and forlorn caper begins to flourish in his new found happiness! The happy duo the continues on in their grand adventure.

Hold up. This did not go as planned.

Midway down the runway, one, and then both, of the cheek guards get caught in the frill of the outfit. First, one falls and smashes, and immediately the second does the same. I cannot explain the feeling of utter defeat we had at this point in the challenge. The absolute excitement and joy we had making this, and feeling incredibly happy with our build, immediately vanished along with all hope in this challenge.

BEHIND THE BUILD

Challenge Time:    5 Hours

Challenge Description:

We've already picked out costumes, but there is one big part missing. The masks!

That is what you are building today. Masks that scream "I am not just showing to the party, I am the party!"

This is not a challenge where you can play it safe. Because when you are done building, one team member will don the costume and the mask, to make their grand entrance at the masquerade ball.

Brickmasters, I know you want them to exhibit grace and style, but what else are you looking for?

For the first time this season, you need to make a build that is wearable so that you need to make sure that it is flexible to put on your head but also strong enough to walk across the room.

And of course, you have to think about how your mask and your costume will tie together to make a complete look.

Challenge Outcome:

Ben and Michael are "safe"... barely... Just in pieces
