“Some folks work in office towers, others run market stalls on the street. As for me? I catch things, and hopefully they’re crabs. Crab meat is loved by some of the folks up in the city and I try to do what I can to make a living on this little boat. My apprentice helps sometimes, usually getting caught up with all the fun we’re having. Or getting pinched by crabs - the young bloke doesn’t know where he ought not to be sticking his fingers, nor has he learned. Oh! You’re gonna love this, we also found some weird things. And no, not just the “long crabs,” lobsters the rich folk say but what do they know. Check out these… squid? They kind of just look like splat fish; another cooked up sea specimen from all that there pollution in these waters. Not very common anymore with rich folk trying to clean up these waters for some reason, or at least claiming they are… Anyways, they’re fun little boogers, and I’m sure they're going to taste great once they’re fried!”
Somewhere all these seafood and sushi market stalls need to get their food, and this little fishing boat really tries to provide that, especially all the crab needs. An old boat captain and his young apprentice drift around the bay of New Hashima picking up crabs to sell off to the local markets. This size of fishing operation is all about avoiding the busy streets while making a quick buck! Stealing leftover chicken and turkey works best as crab bait… and once they’re fired it doesn’t matter what the sea creatures eat!
Building small vehicles is something I’ve always enjoyed, and one I hadn’t done recently was utilize a prefabricated boat base (part ID 62812). This wasn’t a LEGO element I actually owned, and so after a quick Bricklink order, I began fiddling with it. I wanted the boat to be covered as much as possible, but still give a nice simple raft base. Lots of bars and rusted over elements made it look like this vessel had seen better days. With it being a crabbing boat, I needed quite a crab trap hanging all over this thing.Multiple fishing poles in different directions and crab traps galore with bits of food, bait (use chicken for the best results) gave way to this look. Even having a few Bionicle Barraki Squids (part ID 57555) stuffed into these traps added to the unique style, nobody fishes for mutant squids on purpose.
